Toll Roads

Certain sections of Czech roads require payment for use, marked by the motorway sign.
To pay, you need to purchase a vignette and affix it to the windshield as per the requirements. The cost of the vignette depends on the duration of use.

Buying a Vignette

You can purchase a vignette at almost any gas station, post office, or sales points at borders. Places where vignettes are sold are marked with a special sign:

Where to Buy the Vignette

You can buy the vignette online on the website: edalnice.cz

At gas stations, usually the first ones after crossing the border.

For vehicles over 3.5 tons, payment is made using special electronic devices. Information about payment can be found on the website: https://www.sfdi.cz/en/vignettes/electronic-toll/

Vignette Validity Period

The vignette is valid for a specified period, regardless of the distance traveled or the number of trips.

D – 10-day vignette – valid for 10 consecutive calendar days, starting from the date indicated on the vignette. For example, a vignette marked May 13 will be valid until May 22, December 28 of this year until January 6 of the next year.
10-day vignette

M – 30-day vignette – valid for 30 consecutive calendar days, starting from the date indicated on the vignette. For example, a vignette marked May 13 will be valid until June 13, January 30 until February 29(28), December 28 of this year until January 28 of the next year.
30-day vignette

R – yearly vignette – valid from December 1 of the previous calendar year to January 31 of the next calendar year.

The vignette must be affixed to the bottom right corner of the windshield inside the vehicle.

The second part of the vignette must be kept, as it may be checked by the Czech Police or customs officers.

Warning When buying ten-day and monthly vignettes, drivers must check if the supplier marked the start of the validity period before filling in the vehicle registration number.
The vignette is not transferable. Once it is affixed to the windshield, it cannot be used for another vehicle.
Vignettes that have expired must be removed from the windshield.

Speed Limits

Speed Limits in the Czech Republic

Standard speed limits in the Czech Republic (unless otherwise indicated on signs).

Cars, motorcycles:
  • Within built-up areas – 50 km/h
  • Outside built-up areas – 90 km/h
  • On roads – 110 km/h
  • On motorways – 130 km/h
Cars with trailers:
  • Within built-up areas – 50 km/h
  • Outside built-up areas – 80 km/h
  • On roads – 80 km/h
  • On motorways – 80 km/h


On roads or motorways located within built-up areas, the speed limit is 80 km/h.

Vehicles with a maximum design speed of less than 80 km/h are prohibited from using motorways.

In the last 50 meters before a railway crossing, the speed must not exceed 30 km/h.


Dipped Headlights

Dipped headlights are mandatory 24 hours a day, all year round.

During daylight hours (from sunrise to sunset) and under conditions of normal visibility, daytime running lights can be used instead of dipped headlights.

Parking in the Czech Republic

In most cities, street parking is paid and time-limited.

Prague

In Prague, street parking is paid on weekdays (Monday to Friday) from 08:00 to 20:00. The hours of paid parking may differ from the standard, and additional signs on parking signs will provide information. Parking is paid using parking meters.

Prague is divided into parking zones. The blue zone is reserved for residents only, the violet zone is a mixed zone that can be used by both residents and guests after payment, the orange zone is for short-term parking (usually a maximum of 2 hours), and the green zone consists of long-term P+R (Park and Ride) and K+P (parking for dropping people off at the metro or train station).

The tariff is calculated in 15-minute increments.

Winter Tires, Studded Tires, Chains

From November 1 to March 31

Winter tires must be used For vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons, when there is a continuous layer of snow or ice on the road, winter tires must be used. Winter tires must have a minimum tread depth of 4 mm. All wheels must be equipped with winter tires.
