Toll Roads

Almost all highways in Hungary are toll roads. To pay, you need to purchase an e-vignette (electronic vignette). The cost of the vignette depends on the duration of use, vehicle category, and the presence of a trailer.

If you enter a toll road, you have 60 minutes to purchase the vignette or exit the toll road (for example, if you entered by mistake).

Purchasing Vignettes

Electronic vignettes are sold at electronic terminals, retail stores, gas stations, and at the border. They can also be purchased online.

You can buy an e-vignette online at https://ematrica.nemzetiutdij.hu/. Registration on the website is mandatory from 2021, but it is convenient if you plan to continue buying e-vignettes.

It is better to pay for the vignette in forints, as the euro exchange rate may be inflated. This applies to both cash and cashless payments

Details on using the e-vignette, fines, and other information can be found in the Ukrainian brochure from the Hungarian Toll Service: Using E-vignette.pdf
